Larry Zimmerman

  • Larry Zimmerman has had a diverse career:  a career in the U.S. Navy as an enlisted Fleet Marine Navy Corpsman (3rdRecon), and then as a Naval Flight Officer flying the E-2C Hawkeye.  After retiring from the Navy, he has worked as a program manager and system’s engineer. Throughout his life his avocation has been composing, playing piano and conducting.  He directed the Naval Air Training Command Choir in Pensacola, Florida and the symphony commissioned him to write a piece for men’s chorus and orchestra.  He used the poetry of his close friend CDR Ralph Gaither (a seven-year prisoner of war in Hanoi, North Vietnam).  The work was performed by military choirs and orchestra during the 75th and 100th anniversaries of Naval Aviation.  He has a published song cycle (Transcontinental) for soprano “Wind Songs," based on the poetry of children from Terezin, Czechoslovakia. He has a Master of Arts degree from George Mason University with an emphasis on composition.  He works closely with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra in North Carolina.
